October Elkhart ArtWalk is hosting exhibitions featuring the color purple In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness month. Artists are invited to explore the color itself, of feature powerful visual statements about the dynamics of abuse and gender equality.
- Art Galore! Go to Our Place on Main at 126 S. Main St. to see the creative illustrations of Dave Rozmarynowski; enjoy wood creations by Doyle Borntraager and SteamPunk lamps by Cary Osborne at Juxtapose at 208 S Main St.; and take in the lovely paintings and refurbished furniture by Brenda Murnane at Bella’s Boutique at 226 S. Main St.
- Live Music. Local musicians will perform in various locations in participating businesses.
- Dancing … in color! At 6 p.m. on Civic Plaza at 350 S. Main St., enjoy a live dance & painting performance to raise awareness for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Kathleen Bowers, Victim Assistance Advocate with the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office, will lead the performance. Other dancers include Amorena Ruffolo and Edita Adomaityte.
- 41st Elkhart Juried Regional. Enjoy the best-of-the-best of local art Midwest Museum of American Art’s annual juried show –– free admission during ArtWalk only!
- Kids Activities! During October ArtWalk, there will be plenty of opportunities for the kids to get creative! The Elkhart Public Libraryat 300 S. 2nd St will host a Cookies & Canvas Painting Class; Servant’s Heart Community Church at 204 S. Main St will help the kids make purple monster creations; and you can decorate your own purple pumpkin on Civic Plaza at 350 S. Main.
- The Clothesline Project. Stop by Arts on Main Gallery at 205 S. Main St. to see a special artwork display of t-shirts designed by victims of domestic violence staying at the Safe Haven Shelter. The project is both a therapeutic and awareness building initiative. SafeHaven will also be selling Domestic Violence Awareness t-shirts, bracelets and keychains. All proceeds benefit programs at Safe Haven.
